Yatta or Yattah (Arabic: يطّا; Hebrew: יטה) is a Palestinian city located in the Hebron Governorate on a high approximately 8km south of the city of Hebron in the West Bank.1 It is located on the site of the Biblical town of Juttah. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics it had a population of 42,853 in mid-year 2006..23
Yatta is also home to the al-Makhbrat clan, who holds a tradition of originating from one of the original Jewish tribes of Arabia. They have been visited by Yitzhak Ben-Zvi in order to inquire about the veracity of the claims. It has been found that during one of the winter days the clan goes to a house on the outskirts of the village and lights candles (as is customary in Hanukka). They also refrain from eating camel meat, which is forbidden to Jews.
Seven Palestinians were killed in Yatta during the Second Intifada in different incidents from 2002-04.4
