This article discusses the demography of England. Due to the lack of authoritative contemporary sources, estimates of the population of England for dates prior to the first census in 1801 vary considerably. It has been suggested that even the 1801 census may have left up to 250,000 people uncounted.

Future

According to a August 2008 article in the Daily Mail, England's future ethnic breakdown can be estimated from the ethnicity of babies born in the country in 2005 (who are the newest generation of Britons). It is thought that by the time they have grown up to working age, up to 35% England's population will be an ethnic minority, compared to the current 15%.13 The findings were as follows:
