Danakil Desert

The Danakil Desert lies in north eastern Ethiopia and in southern Eritrea and much of Djibouti. The homeland of the Afar people, it is known for its heat and for the Afar Depression, lying up to 100 m below sea level. Its main industry is salt mining, while it is also home to wildlife, including African wild asses.
